Margaret Sanger Centre International South Africa is pleased to offer their
second course for 2005:
Programme
Planning for Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health focuses on building
sound interventions for adolescent sexual and reproductive health designed to
strengthen institutional capacity to effectively monitor programme operations
and evaluate performance.
The
nuts and bolts of programme planning are fused with adolescent-centred SRH
concerns through an array of provocative and interactive sessions. HIV/AIDS
interventions are situated within the context of healthy sexuality and
appropriate technology. Learning
is facilitated through lectures, case studies, group problem solving and
individualised attention. Emphasis
is placed on participatory learning so instructors draw on the experiences of
participants and their programmes.
Learning Objectives
This
4-week course prepares participants to:

improve
knowledge of adolescent development & its socio
cultural
determinants
·
expand
knowledge of human sexuality
·
up-date
knowledge of trends in adolescent health, particularly SRH and HIV/AIDS
·
analyse
effective strategies for improving ASRH outcomes
·
execute
essential steps in youth centred programme development
·
complete
fully development programme plans
·
integrate
gender equity promotion activities in programme plans
·
develop
proposals for funding
Who should
attend this course?
This
course is designed for health and youth development professionals responsible
for programme development, including:
·
project coordinators
·
project
managers
·
programme
officers and
·
personnel
whose duties include the design, implementation or supervision of youth
service delivery system.
What
should participants expect?
This
intensive course involves:
·
28
hours of classroom contact per week
·
1,5
hour each evening for independent completion of assignments
·
small,
supported team meetings twice per week for collective problem solving
·
course
relevant sites visits
·
opportunities
to see sites of interest on weekends.
During this course,
participants will:
·
design
ASRH programmes appropriate to local needs & resources
·
develop
management structures supportive of quality ASRH services
·
create
monitoring and evaluation systems for effective programme management
·
integrate
activities for promoting gender equity and greater male involvement in ASRH
programmes
·
complete
a full proposal of their programme concept for presentation to a funding
agency.
